Nonprofits have the unique position that they must be accountable to their donors. While businesses may have to answer to a shareholder, a nonprofit is at risk of losing donors, grantors, and funding if they are not fiscally responsible and transparent in their financial dealings. Nonprofit accounting is very different from for-profit accounting. Understanding the unique complexities requires a specific understanding of how nonprofits function differently than a for-profit business and relating to their individual needs. Grants and restricted funding just add more complexity to the fun of accounting!
Because I have a strong background in nonprofit accounting, I understand the setup and tracking that needs to be in place for nonprofits to produce the transparency required by their donors. Moreover, I have expertise in nonprofit budgeting, tracking grants, and managing donor databases.
